Its that time of year again. Elf on the Shelf is due to come to your house anytime now. Our elf, Gunter, usually shows up the week of Thanksgiving or right after.

I’ve been entertaining my youngest child with Elf on the Shelf for about five years now. Why I ever started it is beyond me and I’m sure I’m not the only one who thinks they made the biggest mistake ever. Yes I know the kids enjoy it, but holy hell it can get so frustrating. I don’t know how many times I have forgotten to move that damn Elf. And of course my son would wake up in the morning and be like, “Mom, Gunter didn’t move, what’s wrong with him”? My response is usually, “Honey he had a rough night or he seen you moving in your sleep and didn’t want to wake you up, so he just stayed put”. Thankfully he hasn’t realized that mom is a dumbass and totally forgot.

Trying to think up new ways to put that damn Elf somewhere is a pain. You wanna think of some awesome things to do, but damnit, it doesn’t always go that away. How many times have I wanted to just throw him in the garbage and say, “Gunter met a girl elf, so he went back to the North pole to get married and have babies”. lol  That may work now that my son is 10 years old, but I will once again torture myself for another year just to see Colton’s happy face in the mornings.

I just wonder how many times I will forget to move him this year. I always try to do it after he goes to bed, but I’m usually to wore out and say I’ll deal with it in the morning. Then of course morning rolls around and Colton’s up before I can move it. Yep that’s my luck. This year I’m gonna get my rear in gear and do better, if not than I’m putting Gunter on the next plane to the North Pole.

Here’s to another Christmas of pulling my hair out for ideas. Thankfully I can get props at the Dollar Tree for cheap, if I don’t already have something at the house.

Check out these Elf on the Shelf ideas that I have done throughout the years for my son…

  2. These are such cute ideas! I think we will be getting an elf for the first time this year, so I needed this post to inspire some creative ideas.

  3. Oh my goodness! We haven’t done Elf on a Shelf in the past but now I’m very tempted! What a fun way to spread the magic of Christmas. My favorite was the elf hiding in the fridge 🙂

  4. Last year, our elf came for the first time. Her name is Apple and she does like to get into some mischief, but mama and dada also enjoy sleep. I am going to steal every one of these ideas as I already felt like I had run out after one year! You have inspired my creativity! I love the making of the chocolate chip cookies!

  5. I cannot wait until my daughter is old enough to participate in the Elf on the Shelf. I love this idea and there are so many funny ways to style the elf. Thank you for your candid shots!
