The older I get the less sleep my body needs, well that’s what I keep telling myself. On the weekends I rarely sleep past 9am, during the week I’m up at 5:20am to start my days for work. I don’t mind not being able to sleep in on the weekends, cause the earlier I get up the more time I have to clean and get all my chores done and actually have a weekend instead of it just flying by. I believe that waking up early leads to a more productive day, so being a morning person is not bad at all.. Now if only I can get my husband to understand that getting his butt out of bed at 5:30am is not going to kill him.
Get up & get moving: I do hit the snooze button a couple of times before I roll out of bed, but 5:20am is still pretty early. I head straight to the shower for that nice, hot, relaxing water to wake me up. Once I have showered it’s off to let my dogs out and make sure they have water and food. This (5:30am) is when I wish my hubby would be up so I could make the bed, when that was your routine for 6 years while he worked early hours and now he doesn’t leave the house until 6:30, it can drive a woman crazy. I make myself a cup of coffee, if your not into coffee, anything you like will get you up and moving about, just make it routine. I will turn a little lamp on and sometimes the TV to listen to the news, gotta light the place up a little. Lighting will help you wake up as well. Finish getting ready and by 5:50am I’m dressed and ready to move onto other things. Yes this is when I have to wake the hubby up and wait for him to roll out of bed just so I can make it up. This is the only part of my routine that makes my OCD kick in, it may not even be OCD, it may just be aggravation. A routine is something you stick to everyday, and I’m still trying to adjust… Actually I can’t adjust so he’s gonna have to start getting up.. You hear that Justin, get your butt out of bed early so you can get motivated as well.
Getting the kids up: Oh dear heavens, this is the worst part of the morning. My kids are not morning people at all, they take forever to get up and at times it can stress me out to no end. As a working mom, I’m so excited for the breaks they get throughout the school year, cause that means I don’t have to fuss, fight and argue with them to get up. Thank you Jesus, they are off Friday and Monday!!!!! I will be getting my lunch together while screaming at the boys to get up and get in the shower, this goes on for a good 15 minutes. I don’t eat breakfast at home, usually a bag of chips around 9am is my breakfast. By 6:25am I’m running out the door to my car and flying down the road to get to work.
Made it to work: I only have a 20 minute drive to work, so my nerves are calmed down by the time I make it to work. I’m always a half hour early to work, this way I can get my coffee, look thru emails, scroll through Facebook for a little while, just take it easy for a while before the hustle and bustle of the mechanics coming in or calling and before the phones start ringing off the hook with service calls. We stay quite busy here at work, thank goodness cause it makes the day go by so much faster. But there are days that I could literately put my head on my desk and take a nap cause its so dead, no phones ringing and the mechanics actually leaving us along for once. The peace and quite can be nice though.
Evening & night: The minute I set foot inside the house around 4:30pm my kids are complaining that they are so hungry, they didn’t eat lunch at school (sorry bud, not my fault) and when is dinner going to be ready. Ugghh just shoot me, mother’s never get a break. Hey boys, you know what, eat a bowl of cereal cause mom is officially on strike. 🙂 If you want dinner, then defend for yourself. There has to be at least one day of the week that us mom’s don’t have to cook, there are usually plenty of leftovers from all the dinner’s I make to feed everyone anyway, well most of the time. I like to schedule for the week what I will be making for dinner, it helps so much to plan ahead, keep to this routine and it won’t be so bad in the evenings. Crap, I just remembered that I forgot to leave out hamburger to thaw so I could fix dinner tonight, well tonight just may well be a defend for yourself kind of night. Good luck men!
Bedtime: They always say, Early to bed Early to Rise, well this is true for the hubby and I. We don’t stay up past 9pm, if we do, it’s only until about 9:30p. Heck there are times that at 8pm I could curl up in my bed and sleep until my alarm goes off. This past time change really did me in, it took me forever this year to get use to it. When 7pm came around I was laying on the couch falling asleep. There will be times on Friday or Saturday night that by the time 10pm rolls around I’m ready to saw logs. Everyone says we are old, no we are just Early Risers!! Early to bed always makes for a good morning person and a productive day.
Just keep in mind that if you want to become a more productive person in life, having a morning routine will for sure make you more productive on everything you do. I know it sounds crazy, but it does work, even on the weekends try doing the same routine that you do throughout the week. I slack on the getting in the shower first thing on a Saturday or Sunday morning, but the rest of the routine with the dogs, coffee, cleaning, is pretty much the same every weekend. I have my week routine and my weekend routine and it works out just fine for me.
Til next time,
